Kindergarten programs play a crucial role in early childhood development, offering a range of benefits that lay the foundation for a child's future academic and personal growth. We view our role as crucial in helping students reach their fullest potential. Our goal is to instill a love for learning in our students, fostering a positive attitude towards school and nurturing a passion for lifelong education.
We recognize that each child is unique, with individual learning styles and needs. It is our responsibility to create a nurturing, engaging, safe, and enjoyable environment where every child can thrive and achieve their personal goals. We emphasize the importance of exploration and seizing teachable moments as integral to a high-quality Kindergarten experience.
We understand that a strong Catholic Kindergarten education goes beyond academic excellence; it also involves providing spiritual strength at a formative age. We firmly believe that the purpose of Catholic education is to develop the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Our environment places children in the dynamic of a family community where they have access to a team of educators and students who support their development. We are dedicated to fostering an environment where parents and grandparents are actively involved in their child's education, working collaboratively with us to support and enhance their child's learning journey.
We use the Science of Reading to ensure all students are reading on grade level, including early intervention with a dyslexia screener to provide early and timely support.
Our reading curriculum includes direct instruction on classical literature (fairy tales, nursery rhymes), vocabulary, phonics/phonemic awareness and ensuring students are fluent at foundational skills by the end of kindergarten.
Kindergarten sets the foundation of math literacy by developing both content and skills. Children engage in hands-on learning, games, and daily routines. We also encourage the use of mathematical language and use visual aids and spatial tools to make concepts real.
Math skills are assessed throughout the year to quickly address any areas in need of support. We use the Nancy Larson Science K curriculum and kits which focus on student interaction with the world around them. We introduce all three main science areas of life, physical, and earth and space with more emphasis on life and physical science.
Strong emphasis is placed on topics that pertain to the early learner and what is important to them: the parts of the body, five senses, healthy habits, pets, characteristics of objects, how objects move, plants, living and non-living things, weather and seasons.
Nancy Larson K ScienceCharacter development is built into the school day through our catechetics instruction and Pacer Empower positive behavior program.
Teachers design social studies units and lessons to be responsive to the students and the world. Lessons introduce young children to the concepts of community, culture, and their place in the world in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
