Although the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is for the salvation and needs of all the church and the whole world, we have had a tradition of including a special intention for each Mass. Most often, these are for someone who has died, but it can certainly be for the intention or need of any parishioner. It is a lovely tradition and can be a source of great comfort for the family of the intention. Earlier this summer, I was able to be at a Mass at my home parish, Assumption in Bellevue. It was for my parents, which was so nice.
For us, our Mass intentions for the weekday Masses are running low. Sundays are OK but weekdays are open, especially for St. Felix and Holy Family. Saints Peter and Paul has been sending back-logged intentions where needed. Each parish currently has their policy on when Mass intentions are accepted for the year ahead and the number of Sunday Masses permitted. Next summer, we will do it in unison, same rules for all.
Someone asked about collection envelopes. So, it's always a good thing to repeat information. Wherever you attend Mass locally, drop your envelope in the collection basket and it will get back to the correct church and be deposited accordingly.
Speaking of envelopes - Friends, the recent news story of the Diocesan financial struggles is true, but it's true for us, also. Collections are lower than last year and everyone is stretched in paying bills. So, please, if you can put in an extra dollar or two, it would be greatly appreciated. If everyone does a little, we can accomplish a great deal.
August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption and is an obligatory Holy Day, just like a Sunday. Once again, our schedule is: Vigil Masses are: 4:00 p.m. at Holy Family 7:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia. Next weekend will be Seminarian, Joe Uzar's, last weekend with us. He has been of great assistance to me and to the Friars and he will be missed. After his pastoral year in a Parish, he returns to St. Vincent Seminary for formal studies on August 25. Joe has been a great blessing to us and I think all of you have been a great blessing to him. I think about all that has gone on in the church this past year and all he has seen and witnessed. The fact that he wants to go back and continue to prepare for ordination is quite amazing. You have encouraged and inspired him by your faith.
