Learning should never be confined solely to the classroom. While the carefully planned lesson is a central component of academics, research is clear; when kids APPLY what they learn in the classroom to real-world settings, tangible tasks, and team goals, the lesson becomes a mastered concept. When students feel confident, they become flexible in their thinking.
We at SSPP also believe that LEARNING IS FUN. With these beliefs in mind, we are delighted to share that the Academic Games League of America is here!
The Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) is an educational organization that promotes learning through competitive academic games. These games are designed to stimulate and challenge students' intellectual abilities across various subjects, including mathematics, language arts, social studies, and logic. AGLOA hosts tournaments where students can compete in teams or individually, encouraging both collaboration and individual excellence. Students who excel academically have a chance to compete and be rewarded for their accomplishments at the local, state, and national levels.
The games require strategic thinking, problem-solving, and quick decision-making, which help develop critical thinking skills.
The competition reinforces classroom learning and helps students deepen their understanding of core subjects.
Many games involve team competitions, promoting cooperation and communication among peers.
Success in the games builds self-esteem and motivates students to tackle challenging academic tasks.
The competitive and interactive nature of the games makes learning fun and engaging, keeping students motivated. As students compete, they develop a resilience for failure and skills for regrouping and adjusting.
Students meet peers from different schools and backgrounds, enhancing their social interactions and networking skills.
Four of the competitions require players to use game kits made by the Accelerated Learning Foundation. In these competitions, a player competes against one or two other students. The complexity of the games is shaped by moves that each person makes. Players must make strategic moves to try to outwit their opponents at each turn.
EQUATIONS: GRADES 5-8
A game that challenges players to improve their grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing skills. Players learn to compose better sentences with proper grammar application and rich vocabulary usage.
4th Grade Equations: this event is held separately as young learners begin learning to play the game at this age.
EQUATIONS
LINGUISHTIK
These tournaments require players to respond to questions or clues that are read aloud to all competitors. A player’s expertise in the game’s subject matter is tested but so is their confidence level in their responses. Students must develop strategies involving when to answer and how much to wager per response.
